Introduction

The Rooster delivers again! A multiplayer mod that is so .. wonderful, it blows away anything done before, in this player's opinion. With textures that just flow together, new models to work out details, and a great look to it. The Desert Siberian Map is for anyone tired of the monotonous white of Siberian 1 but still likes its layout.

Installation

Perfect. Absolutely perfect. Well, as close to perfect as one probably could get without becoming a total geek. A background image of the map for eye candy while the installer gives a default folder to install to but also leaves the area open for change. A progress bar along with the file names as it installs. Only thing I wanted as another image just below the progress bar; within all that empty grey space. Otherwise, all installers should be like this.

Models

Very little to talk about here, but worth talking about. The tall, thin radar tower has a thicker base of brick now. Apart from that, I couldn't find anything else that was changed within models, but I feel that this was worth mentioning.

What's Changed

The entire look! What was once metal, snow, and white becomes brick, sand, and yellow. Everything was changed, nothing was missed. Only the doors remain metal but I still feel it gives it a realistic look. Computers blend right in to the wall and the lights look very realistic. Like something out of Rambo III. I kept looking for something wrong, a large glitch or bug in the map, but I could only find one outside the map. When I tested this in single player, there was no skybox. A large black ceiling. One can easily go into the Red Storm Editor and fix this by adding a rocky mountain sky, but the lack of it when I tested was somewhat of a downfall. Another thing was that all the reds and yellows did annoy my eyes a bit. Depth perception is thrown off by all the horizontal and vertical lines of bricks when one is inside, and only shadows help alleviate it all.

Conclusion

A perfect addition to any games because it adds a brand new flavor to an old (but loved) shape. Be sure all players have this server-client mod and perhaps add perhaps add a nice sky (or was it just me?) to brighten the day. This is a keeper, something to possibly base a single player mission on. I can see it now.. rescue the hostages from an Iraqian outpost...

Final Score: 84%
